Metallica On The Rise Again

There is one band that will go down in history as the #1 metal band of music history — Metallica. This band has definitely experienced their share of trials and tribulations, but also has great success stories to go along with them. One thing the band does have is the record and ticket sales, along with fans, to put them at the top of all metal bands. Things, at one point, got so rough that Metallica took a break — a nine year break. They are back now with their first release, in 2008, of an album entitled Death Magnetic. There are two major differences between the band of today and yesterday; they have a different bassist and they are clean (all of them).

Lars Ulrich was the first one to come up with the idea of a metal band back in1981. He didn’t know where else to look for talent, so he placed an ad in the local newspaper; an ad that would soon catch the attention of other Metallica band members. There was talent to be found, and man did he find it. It was here, from this ad in 1981, that Metallica formed and began their journey to stardom.

Dave Mustaine was one of the original band members of Metallica, which some may not know. Mustaine was banned from the band before they made their first release. The drugs and alcohol were already strong in the band, but Dave’s violence was not acceptable. He was kicked out of the band, which took him some time to move on, but move on he did. Dave is the original founder of Megadeth, another metal band that will — and already has — gone down in music history. In fact, Megadeth is right behind Metallica at #3.

It was in the 1990s that Metallica began to see some real problems. Not only did their entire sound change, but the lost fans over it too. Fans felt that the band had sold-out and were no longer the band they started following in the 80s. On the other hand, record sales began to increase with other public audiences. To make things even worse, Lars filed suit against Napster for rights infringement. This lawsuit left a bad taste in the mouths of thousands. It was at this point that people began to wonder if Metallica would ever be the same again.

After the band lost their bassists, and friend, they took a break from their careers. It was, apparently, time for them to focus on their priorities and straighten up their acts a bit. They have since become clean, released St. Anger, and a recent short tour. With these recent actions and releases, Metallica is starting to get their fame back. Long-time fans are even starting to listen to the band again, and are enjoying what they hear and see.
